  • “Becoming a victim and indigenous power”. Pictured here is a person believed to have been murdered by paramilitaries, in front of units of the Indigenous Forces. A world that accepts only extremes is black and white. Not least, it is also the photographers who risk their lives so that the country can experience first-hand the suffering of the victims, the horrors and the intertwined roles of the various actors in this war. Through their language – photography – they tell us what really happened and what many would prefer to ignore. Photographs are passed down from one generation to the next. Today our website trans-somatic.com goes online

May 11, 2026

Today our website trans-somatic.com goes online — a place dedicated to the somatic memory of historical violence: Here we bring together research, art, and practice that demonstrate how trauma continues to live on in the body — long after history seems to have passed.

This site is intended to be a growing space: for scholarly articles, publications, conferences, as well as artistic works and voices that make the invisible visible. Here under NEWS on the homepage, you will find the latest updates on the progress of our project. Under MATERIALS, we have compiled links for further reading and viewing, and we are constantly expanding and updating this list.

We are delighted to embark on this journey together and would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has already contributed.
